Al Basar International Foundation was established in 1989 to provide free eye care services to underserved communities worldwide.
Recognising the widespread lack of basic eye care in developing countries, a dedicated team of medical professionals and volunteers committed to fighting preventable blindness. Initially focused on outreach programmes, Al Basar sent teams to remote areas to offer free cataract surgeries, eye exams, and glasses.
Over time, the organisation has expanded its global outreach and special programmes, establishing a permanent network of eye hospitals across Africa and Asia to ensure sustainable access to quality eye care.

Al Basar was officially established, and our very first outreach programme was successfully conducted.
Recognizing the need for trained specialists, Al Basar established the first training college to educate the next generation of eye care professionals.
The Makka Eye Hospital was built, establishing a physical foundation to serve communities with continuous care.
We conducted our first school screening programme, bringing early detection and free glasses directly to students.
With passion and self-devotion, the volunteers of Makka Clinics received an award for best work in our institutions.
We marked our 31st hospital in operation worldwide, cementing a long-term treatment strategy.
