WHO WE ARE?

Who We Are: A Foundation Committed to Ending Preventable Blindness Worldwide

At Al Basar International Foundation, we are dedicated to restoring vision and transforming lives in underserved communities across the world.

We believe restoring sight is one of the most powerful, cost-effective ways to change lives. When vision is restored, children return to school, adults can work again, and communities grow stronger. This vision of sustainable, localized transformation is what drives our teams every day.

OUR quick STORY

An Unwavering Vision Since 1989

Al Basar International Foundation was established in 1989 to provide free eye care services to underserved communities worldwide. Recognising the widespread lack of basic eye care in developing countries, a dedicated team of medical professionals and volunteers committed to fighting preventable blindness.

"Initially focused on outreach programmes, we sent teams to remote areas to offer free cataract surgeries, eye exams, and glasses."

Over time, the organisation has expanded its global outreach and established a permanent network of eye hospitals across Africa and Asia, ensuring sustainable access to quality eye care. By 2025, over 29 million people have been assisted globally through our comprehensive programmes.

Through our network of 30 dedicated hospitals, we served approximately 1.75 million outpatients in a single year. By working hand-in-hand with local health ministries, we identify areas with a high prevalence of eye diseases and bring critical care directly to the populations that need it most.
